Grown Up Summer Fun - Part 1

Discover exciting grown-up summer activities in Nashville, from symphony nights to movie parks.
June 3, 2014
After reading my “fun with the kiddos” post last week, a friend suggested they’d like some ideas for fun without the kids. I still have several “family friendly” ideas in the works, but ever since I started thinking about grown-up play dates, I haven’t been able to quiet my brain because we do live in (or very near!) an incredible city with limitless summer offerings. So, call your favorite baby-sitter, throw on that little black dress and a pair of cute, summer sandals and spend some time exploring Nashville, grown-up style!

From now until Saturday, June 12th, the Nashville Symphony will be hosting their “Symphony Under the Stars” concerts. Bring your blanket and enjoy favorites from Beethoven, Bernstein, Copland, Cole Porter and Tchaikovsky, along with other well-known classical works. Concerts are held at different parks in Nashville so be sure to check out the dates and locations online: www.nashvillesymphony.org

Want to balance that high-brow music with some boot-stompin’ honkey tonk? The Annual CMA fest lands in Nashville from June 5th – 8th. Country music lovers from around the country will descend on our fair city to hear music from hundreds of artists. Nightly concerts will be hosted at LP Field, free music will be plentiful at Riverfront Park and a handful of events will be held at some of Nashville’s historic music venues. Check out the complete list at www.visitmusiccity.com

Each Thursday night in June is “Movie Night in the Park.” Pack a picnic and head over to Elmington Park for a big-screen motion picture. Movies start at sunset, but you should get there early to secure a primo spot on the great lawn. If you’d rather not BYOP, there are tasty food trucks sure to satisfy. My personal favorite, Biscuit Love, does a land office business, and ya’ll, don’t even think about leaving without trying “The Princess.” Homemade biscuit + fried chicken + local honey = happy, happy tummies! Another plus to this event, even if the babysitter backs out on you, all is not lost. Most of the movies (check them out here) are family friendly!

I have the happy privilege of showing new clients our fantastic city and surrounding areas all the time and it renews my excitement about living in such a vibrant town, but I know that it’s easy to become so immersed in our busy lifestyles that we think we just don’t have time to enjoy what’s in our very own back yard. So, do yourself a big favor and commit to a night or two out on the town. I promise, you won’t regret it!
