Middle TN Home Landscape Priorities
First, at the beginning of the 2022 winter, Middle Tennessee experienced an extended period of subfreezing temps. If you are worried about your evergreens, shrubs and trees surviving, here’re some pro tips from Southern Living to help you evaluate. In many cases, time will only tell. A key part of curb appeal is healthy shrubs, grass, trees and any hardscape.
Make sure your shrubs and trees are properly trimmed and not overgrown. Depending on the species, trees and shrubs have a life-span and you can tell when they are at the end of the cycle and it is time to replacement them. Here’s a guide of the lifespan for 20 common shrubs to help.
In addition to ridding the yard of weeds in your landscape, be sure your grass is prepped for spring and not plagued by abundance of weeds. We have been seeing a growing number of artificial grass on home sports courts, yards and putting greens which is very fun. Water features can be a negative if not maintained. If you have a koi pond, pool or hot tub, include information on your maintenance and share any recent upgrades.
It is also important to take a hard look at decks, patios and pool decks for any needed repairs. You’ll be surprised what cold temps and rain can do in a short-period of time.
Ultimately, curb appeal is more than fresh paint for your door and flowers for your porch. As proponents of regular home maintenance, updating your outdoor living area is also important and why not enjoy it while you live in the home!
